Goodwood Loves Good Airmanshp

Airmanship, Circuit Discipline and Safe Flying are phrases that most of you will be familiar with. Goodwood Air Traffic Services (ATS) have put in a few requests to keep the skies above Goodwood a safe place to be.

With regard to all the above, safety issues will always take priority if the situation arises:

Pilots are requested to inform ATS of their intentions in the circuit, especially when on finals, when ATS must know if the aircraft intends to land or touch and go. This enables the following aircraft and ATS to plan accordingly. Please also inform ATS of how you will be joining the circuit, and not just enter the circuit without an R/T call, as this could cause a safety issue.

Pilots are reminded that orbiting on final or base leg is not advisable, and anyone wishing to carry out an orbit within the circuit should notify ATS before commencing as there may be other circuit traffic that could be affected by it.

As stated in the A.I.P, straight in approaches and base leg joins are discouraged except for training purposes. Please request a straight in or base leg approach if required. Circuit traffic permitting we will usually be able to accommodate this.

Goodwood has a Flight Information Service, which means that we issue instructions to aircraft manoeuvring on the ground up to the holding point. Please be aware of this and do not go beyond the holding point or enter the runway without permission from ATS. Please also do not taxi beyond the aerodrome boundary markers or close to the motor circuit track.
