What were you doing before joining Goodwood?

I was in the Royal Navy from the age of 15, for 21 Years. The last 10 years I worked as CPO(OPS)(EW) Teaching and training Officers and Senior Ratings. I then worked in loss prevention for Virgin Our Price and was responsible for 55 stores in the Southern Region including the two airports.

How did you get to where you are today?

Hard work and job satisfaction; buffing the ballroom floor and opening the house to visitors on Sundays, working as Duty Crew and Motor Circuit initially and assisting Ian Carter. Living at South Lodge without heating! Working as Radio Controller for Racecourse, FoS, and Revival in the early days. Obtaining various job associated qualifications and attending outside motorsport events as an event official.

What does your job entail?

General Circuit safety and supporting other activities at Goodwood. Responsible for day to day running of the motor circuit, dealing with visitor and customer enquiries and ensuring the safe running of events. Providing first person on-scene medical aid if required and incident handling. Also providing casual staff for other jobs and duties. Father Christmas 1990, 2010 and 2012 for staff and children parties by request.

Where are you based on the Estate?

Motor Circuit - JSP - Pit Lane Office – Extension 3413 (Living and working on site).

What has been the best thing about your Goodwood experience so far?

Starting in 1980 as a volunteer and working my way up from casual to current position; hopefully spending the rest of my life here.

What are your hobbies?

Motorsport; all disciplines, BSB, Trucks, rally, speed and anything else with 2 or 4 wheels.Food tasting; particular oriental flavours.

Tell us something most people don’t know about you!

I can sing Ernie (Fastest milkman) from start to finish with a full pint balanced on my head...well used to. I also used to be able to swim miles and played water polo for the Royal Navy; now I can just float; built for comfort not speed!

If you were to be treated, what would your favourite treat be?

A return to the Falkland Islands; many memories and friends from 1982 (spent 11 months on there). Never been back; spent 5 journeys of 33 hours in the air by flying zippo (Hercules) during the conflict. Would like tofly by executive jet and be a tourist with a big 4 x 4.
