Lifestyle
In the summer, the pigs roam through the woodland, benefiting
from its shade and coolness. In their turn, the pigs benefit
the forest by clearing its floor throughout the summer months.
In winter, because contact with damp tree roots could be harmful,
the pigs have the run of the stubble fields. This also enables
the pigs to be on a carefully monitored winter feeding programme
to maintain their body condition. Since managing the pigs in
their natural forest environment, their characters have changed
remarkably. Instead of reverting to wild ways, the pigs are mild-mannered,
tame and trusting. The animals are checked every day by farm
staff. Pigs are treated using homeopathic remedies, with veterinary
surgeons brought in regularly to assess them with the emphasis
firmly on prevention rather than cure.
Traceability
All Goodwood livestock can be traced on every step of their
journey from field to plate. Home Farm is accountable to the
Soil Association and Trading Standards, but additionally has
its own traceability audit system in place which sees the Farm
Director, Manager, Food and Beverage Manager and Health and
Safety Manager following an animal from farm to slaughterhouse
to meat processing, to ensure that they can be completely confident
that they have full traceability on every cut of meat from
the farm to the customer.

for private entertaining and corporate events at Goodwood
