Mercedes

This year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed Mercedes-Benz will be celebrating 125 Years of innovation. 1886 was the birth of the automobile when Carl Benz applied for his first patent of a ‘gas engine powered vehicle’. A replica of the Benz Patent Motor Car will be on display surrounded by the wealth of history that followed it.

Since 1886 Mercedes-Benz has continued to innovate and applied for over 80,000 patents. As a result of these there have been many landmark models in the history of Mercedes-Benz and many of these will be on display at the festival including the Blitzen-Benz which set world records at the Brooklands Motor Circuit as the first vehicle to reach 200 kph (124 mph) and the 1954 Streamliner which took innovation to a new levels with its ‘streamlined’ body, and took Juan Manuel Fangio to victory at the French Grand Prix in his first race for Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz history will also be bought to life on the track. However during the Moving Motorshow it will be the very latest models which will be available for customers to test drive, by invitation only, on the iconic hill route for themselves. The new CLS-Class which launched in March will be joined by the new SLK-Class Roadster and the C-Class Coupé, both of which launch in June.

As you would expect from Mercedes-Benz all of these new models bring with them the latest innovations. They all feature ECO Start/Stop; the new CLS has adaptive LED headlights which are a world first and the SLK-Class and C-Class Coupé feature COMAND Online. The SLK also features Magic Sky Control as an option which enables the roof to switch from light to dark at press of a button giving an open air feel when light and a cooler cabin when dark.
