Canaletto, Stubbs, Hearsey and Lotus - the Goodwood Art Collection Grows

Not only is Goodwood home to two of the world’s leading annual motor sport events – the Festival of Speed (28 June – 01 July) and Revival (14-16 September) – it also houses a fine collection of art, including stunning landscapes painted by Canaletto, and famous horse scenes by celebrated equine artist George Stubbs.

This year Goodwood’s artwork collection is expanded further with the reveal of the official printed posters for the 2012 Festival of Speed and Revival.

These highly-desirable motor sport prints are certain to become much soughtafter collector’s items in the future, yet are available now in limited numbers or a modest £20 each from the Goodwood Shop (located at the Motor Circuit) and on-line at http://shop.goodwood.com|.

As in the previous 19 years since the Festival of Speed began, Goodwood has commissioned renowned motor sport artist Peter Hearsey to depict the annual Festival theme and main attractions with an evocative and colourful painting. This year’s theme is ‘Young Guns – Born to Win’, celebrating drivers and riders and designers and engineers whose supreme talent and insatiable

thirst for speed shocked the establishment, affording them immediate superstar status.

A celebration of Lotus as the 2012 Festival featured marque will see a mouthwatering selection of significant models present at Goodwood, including the celebrated Lotus 72 wearing its iconic black and gold ‘John Player Special’ livery. This car took Brazilian ‘Young Gun’ Emerson Fittipaldi to Formula One World Championship victory in 1972, and is illustrated crossing the Festival of Speed finish line at the top of the 1.16-mile hillclimb by Peter Hearsey for the official 2012 event poster.

Complementing this year’s Festival of Speed artwork is the official 2012 Goodwood Revival poster image – from the Michael Cooper collection - depicting Dan Gurney at the wheel of his Shelby Daytona Cobra, on his way to a famous victory in the 1964 Tourist Trophy race at Goodwood. Dan Gurney will be the focus of the 2012 Goodwood Revival driver tribute, whilst the Daytona will be one of 30 AC/Shelby Cobras on the Revival grid as Goodwood celebrates the 50th anniversary of this legendary brut with a special, one off all-Cobra race.
