Tin Top talent is out in force at the 2012 Festival of Speed as rarely-seen saloon racers and contemporary BTCC cars and drivers gather at Goodwood.
Contemporary tin top racers include current BTCC stars Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden in the Honda Civic and Frank Wrathall in the Toyota Avensis. The Nissan Leaf Nismo RC will also be among the first electric racing cars to compete against the clock for a timed run up the 1.16-mile Goodwood hillclimb.
Older touring titans in action will include the celebrated Zakspeed Ford Capri of Klaus Ludwig, the 1984-season battling BMW 636 CSi and TWR Jaguar XJS, various Alfa Romeos – from the 1970 1750 GTAM to the 1993 155 DTM – plus a quintet of significant Vauxhall tin top racers, including the ex-Gerry Marshall Firenzas, DTV, ‘Old Nail’ and ‘Baby Bertha,’ plus the fearsome Carlton TS6000 Thundersport of 1986. The wild Opel Manta 400 ‘Stars and Stripes’ will also be making its Goodwood debut.
