Saloon car racing has always been popular in Europe, the 1970s to the early ’90s being arguably the movement’s greatest era. The 2012 Festival of Speed’s ‘Touring Titans’ category has proved hugely popular, with the likes of David Tetley’s ex-Holman Blackburn/Gerry Marshall 6.2-litre Opel Manta 400 Supersaloon and Pete Stevens’ Chevy-powered Dealer Team Vauxhall Carlton TS6000 storming the hill on Sunday. Highlight for many Festival visitors, however, was the first Festival appearance of the ex-Klaus Ludwig Zakspeed Ford Capri. This 1.5-litre turbo beast captured the 1981 DRM title and multiple Le Mans winner Ludwig was reunited with the car over the Festival weekend.
