The Greatest 'Young Guns' in action this 2012...
With Father’s Day getting uncomfortably close (Sunday 17 June), Goodwood is encouraging all good sons and daughters to show just how much they appreciate their ‘old man’ by treating him to a visit to this year’s Festival of Speed and Moving Motor Show (28 June until 1 July), to see motor sport’s finest Young Guns in action.
The Festival of Speed is firmly established as the world’s greatest celebration of the history of motor sport. Your hero (your dad) will be able to see a huge number of his own motor sport heroes in action, with over 100 of the very best drivers and riders already confirmed to be tackling Goodwood’s challenging 1.16-mile hillclimb. These include Formula 1 Champions Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Alain Prost, Sir Jackie Stewart, John Surtees and Emerson Fittipaldi, plus rally stars Rauno Aaltonen, Jimmy McRae and Hannu Mikkola, plus bikers Kenny Roberts, Wayne Gardner, Aaron Slight, Neil Hodgson, Sammy Miller and Steve Webster.
The theme of this year’s Festival is ‘Young Guns – Born to Win’, ccelebrating drivers and riders; designers and engineers whose supreme talent and insatiable thirst for speed shocked the establishment, affording them immediate superstar status. The essence of this theme will run right through this year’s content, with innovations evident throughout, including engine configurations and developments, body shapes, chassis.
With over 300 vehicle entries, and so many top drivers and riders expected, this year’s Festival of Speed promises something for every father’s taste:
Racing cars, spanning the decades from early Edwardian racing pioneers, through to at least six current F1 teams, not forgetting legendary Le Mans endurance racers, throaty Pikes Peak and tip top racers, current Supercars and a wealth of motorcycles.
World rallying heroes going sideways on the exciting Goodwood Forest Rally Stage, presented by Skoda.
Stunning ‘central display’ celebrating Lotus, with over 50 significant Lotus cars present.
A unique Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ automotive design competition celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a collection of vehicles personally used and owned by the Monarch.
Air displays, including the Red Arrows and Eurofighter, plus a dedicated Aviation Exhibition.
A dedicated Moving Motor Show area, with the very latest cars on display for dad’s inspection, as well as a host of the newest supercars and plenty of exciting new concept cars in the FoS-TECH pavilion, many making their world debut.
Add in great live entertainment, including astonishing extreme sports in the GAS (Goodwood Action Sports) arena, plus the Junior Festival of Speed, and the Festival makes for the perfect summer outing, enabling the whole family to have fun; not just dad.
