Golf At Goodwood member Chris Dyson set to defend his Trilby Tour Amateur Championship title
Golf At Goodwood member Chris Dyson is set to defend his prestigious Trilby Tour Amateur Championship title in the 2011 tournament.
One of Goodwood’s leading amateur golfers, Chris, clinched victory in the 2010 tournament from a field of more than 1,000 competitors from across England, Ireland and Scotland.
The seven handicapper scored a staggering 40 points in the Grand Final held at the Buckinghamshire Club, and then fought off intense competition in a four man play off to be crowned champion for 2010.
The Trilby Tour has become one of the best amateur golf tournaments in the UK and has proved to be phenomenally successful. Launched in 2007, the Trilby Tour was created by Savile Row designer William Hunt, a big golf enthusiast to give golfers from all walks of life the chance of hitting the big time playing in a national televised tournament, just like the tour professionals.
“To be crowned the Trilby Tour Amateur Champion was an amazing experience. You feel like you are playing in a professional event with all the cameras, the sponsorship banners, and the crowds, I felt a million dollars. I felt like a professional golfer for the day,” says Chris, a 43 year old IT Manager from Tangmere in West Sussex.
Chris almost missed his chance of competing in this popular tournament last year as the event was fully subscribed within a matter of weeks at all of the eight regional finals.
So this year he made sure his entry was in early: “I was taking no chances this year, and my application went in as early as possible. I’m aiming to defend my title and lift the championship trophy again this year.”
The Trilby Tour continues to go from strength to strength as it announces the line-up of an incredible club list for the 2011 season. Goodwood is one of the prestigious venues to host the event across the country, with Trevose in Cornwall and Rockliffe Hall in Durham whilst Slieve Russell in Co. Cavan hosts the Ireland Championship this summer.
Other venues include Donnington Grove in Berkshire, and Old Thorns in Hampshire.
Last year’s clubs the KP Club, The Oxfordshire and Marriott Sprowston Manor make a return in 2011 to feature in the Trilby Tour for the second year running.
William Hunt says: “We’ve got some cracking courses this year sure to test the toughest of players. I don’t intend to make it easy for them - that’s not what the Trilby Tour is about. But we’ll see who rises to the top, and these boys love a challenge!”
