Awesome Ancient Egyptians
Taking placein the magnificent Egyptian Dining Room, this is an opportunity for children to see some of the symbols and images of ancient Egypt; stimulating discussion about life in Egypt at that time. The workshop activities include: observational drawing; the art and importance of writing- make a papyrus bookmark with hieroglyphic writing; discussion of why and how the ancient Egyptians made mummies-grind the resins and mummify a teddy!
Your visit can also include a full or short tour of other State rooms of Goodwood House.

Portraits and Patterns
By telling the story of some of the Richmond family, children get an opportunity to examine our fabulous collection of family and royal portraits. Why were they painted? What do the pictures tell us about the people? How were they made? Examine painting techniques, body proportions and composition. Tour the state rooms looking specifically at the portraits, and spend time in the ballroom to focus on one portrait or theme.
Goodwood House is crammed with patterns to discover. See how artists and craftsmen through history have used pattern as decoration on a wide range of objects and materials. Use sketchbooks to select, collect and connect as a starting point for developing into projects at school – printing, textiles, picture frames, ICT and ceramics.

Goodwood House offers art students wonderful opportunities for projects on portraits, furniture, textiles, pattern and history. Teachers are most welcome to ask for a free pre-visit to assess the potential and plan a project
