Sussex Stakes Day
For many, Day 2 wasthe undoubted highlight of Glorious Goodwood in 2012 as the unbeaten Frankel returned to the world’s most beautiful racecourse to defend his Qipco Sussex Stakes crown that he won so impressively in 2011.
Frankel is the undisputed star of flat racing and he topped the World Thoroughbred Rankings in 2011 with a mark of 136, which has subsequently risen to 140 in the latest ratings following another hugely impressive win at Royal Ascot. The Qipco Sussex Stakes (Group 1) was run over 1 mile and this historic race, which is regarded as one of the most prestigious of its kind, was first contested in 1841. It is also part of the British Champions Series. The other Group race on Day 2 was the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes (Group 2) run over 7f.
Racing starts at 2.00pm, with the action coming to a close at 5.30pm. The gates open at 11.00am so why not pop down to Goodwood nice and early and sample the unique atmosphere together with a glass of Champagne, Pimm’s or maybe our new, exclusive Gordon’s Elderflower G&T, which is available throughout the racecourse and, of course, in the Gordon’s Bar.
