Goodwood plays host to an innovative fixture tomorrow evening, Thursday, August 12, with “Vintage At The Races”.
The seven-race card previews Goodwood’s major new festival, Vintage At Goodwood, which takes place at the Goodwood Estate on Friday, August 13, through to Sunday, August 15, and celebrates five decades of British cultural heritage from the 1950s through to the 1980s.
Vintage at Goodwood was the brainchild of designers Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway and Lord March. The festival features world-renowned DJs and musicians from each decade including Ronnie Wood, Sandie Shaw, the Noisettes, Roy Wood, Peter Hook and Heaven 17.
The festival has been curated by several of Britain’s leading music, fashion, design and vintage experts. A 300-metre long high street with over 25 shops and a vintage market, beauty salons, a cinema and several cafes will create a wonderfully authentic vintage backdrop to the event.
Tomorrow’s race night will see former jockeys Willie Carson, Bruce Raymond, Brian Rouse, Ray Cochrane, Joe Mercer and John Woodman presenting trophies to the winners, while racegoers are encouraged to enter into the stylish vintage spirit by wearing a hat.
A beauty box will offer free Vintage makeovers and racegoers should be warned - there will be a mock invasion of mods and rockers!
Gates open at 3.30pm with racing getting underway at 4.55pm. Bars will stay open after the last race at 8.05pm through to 11.00pm.
