Iconic Trophy Will be on Display at Goodwood Racecourse for the May Festival
The iconic trophy for the Investec Derby, known as the ‘greatest flat race in the world’ and the first event of this year’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, will be on display at Goodwood Racecourse on Friday 25th May, as part of the three-day May Festival.
Friday’s racing at the festival includes the Cocked Hat Stakes, in which previous winners have gone on to participate in the Derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse on the first Saturday in June.
The trophy, designed by Charlie Langton and created by Bond Street silversmith’s Asprey’s, was commissioned in 2010. The circular shape of the trophy represents the unique Winner’s Enclosure at Epsom whilst the winning names of the previous 232 runnings of the race are engraved in the middle of the trophy.
Adam Waterworth, Managing Director of Goodwood Racecourse commented, “It is very exciting that the iconic Investec Derby Trophy will be at Goodwood on Friday. I am sure our race-goers will enjoy seeing it on display as well as the spectacular racing that is on offer over the three days.”
Tickets are still available for the May Festival and start from just £8.
