MAGNOLIA CUP RAISES £200K FOR CHARITY

Magnolia Cup Raises £200K for Charity

The second staging of infamous Magnolia Cup – a celebrity Glorious Goodwood Ladies Race generously supported by Audi – has raised £200,000 for charity.

Winston Wish and Spinal Research, who accomplish incredible work in their individual fields, benefit from the glamorous race. Additional donations came from the profits from Goodwood’s Regency Ball at which Paloma Faith performed.

Making the cheque presentation today (Tuesday, October 9th) at the Art’s Club London, Goodwood’s managing director Adam Waterworth, says: “We are thrilled that the Magnolia Cup and Regency Ball has raised approaching half a million pounds in two years for such worthy charities - a fitting reward to the team, riders and trainers who work so hard on this project.”

The winner of the 2012 Magnolia Cup was Oxfordshire-based jewelry designer Philippa Holland on board Russian Bullet trained by Jamie Osborne. Riders included the likes of Edie Campbell and Radio One DJ Sara Cox decked out in designer jockey silks created by fashion icons Kate Moss, Sadie Frost & Pearl Lowe.

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding global medical research to develop reliable clinical treatments and vital science research for paralysis caused by a broken back or neck. Every year more than 800 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. Thanks to such pioneering research, paralysis can now be treated and Spinal Research stands on the brink of applying therapies that will restore movement and feeling, and transform the lives of paralysed people.

Winston’s Wish is the leading childhood bereavement charity and the largest provider of practical support and services to bereaved children, young people and their families in the UK. It is a sad fact that every 22 minutes a child in Britain is bereaved of a parent and is one of the most fundamental losses a child will ever face. They believe that the right support at the right time can enable young people to live with their grief and rebuild positive futures.
