2012 Revival to Mark the 50TH Anniversary of the AC Cobra With a Unique One-Model Race
The finest collection of significant and authentic racing AC Cobras ever assembled in the UK is gathered at this year’s Goodwood Revival (14-16 September 2012) for an exceptional one-model race; the Shelby Cup.
To mark 50 years since Carroll Shelby’s introduction of the initial versions of this cult Anglo-American sports car, the 2012 Revival features a grid exclusively made up of 30 Cobras and their derivatives. This special all-Cobra race on Saturday 15 September is a 45-minute two-driver competition, with driver changes in the pits between 15 and 30 minutes, and features an extraordinary mix of historically-significant competition Cobras, including some of the special-bodied Daytona aerodynamic Cobra-based coupé.
The race promises to make for an intriguing spectacle and a fitting tribute to one of the world’s most revered, and copied, sports car which has a long association with Goodwood.
Before his sad passing earlier this year, Cobra-creator Carroll Shelby was scheduled to attend this year’s Revival, and was greatly looking forward to the event. The Shelby Cup race was named after the great man with his kind permission long before his death, and will now have great poignancy, being staged in memory of Carroll Shelby and his important contribution to motor racing.
