The Earl of March Remembers British Motor Racing Team Legend Alan Mann (1936 - 2012)
Myself, and all of us at Goodwood, are deeply saddened to learn of the passing yesterday of legendary motor racing team manager and racing driver Alan Mann.
Alan Mann was a great Goodwood supporter and frequent competitor here, through his Alan Mann Racing team with his distinctive and always immaculate red and gold liveried Fords.
Many of the greatest drivers of the 1960s raced for Alan in period, including Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir John Whitmore, Graham Hill and Frank Gardner. He remained fiercely loyal to Ford, racing many models, from Escort MK 1s and Cortinas, through to his Lightweight GT40 and famous F3L.
Alan resurrected his eponymous racing team in 2004, after a 35-year gap, with his team regularly racing at the Goodwood Revival, always making a welcome and colourful addition to the St Mary’s Trophy race.
Alan was always delightful company and every year we looked forward to having him here at Goodwood. He will be sorely missed, and all of our deepest sympathies go to his family.
