The ever-popular RAC Earls Court Motor Show is back and bigger than ever at the 2012 Goodwood Revival, celebrating ‘The Great British Sports Car’. New for 2012 is a concours d’elegance contest dedicated to some of the UK’s finest-ever driving machines.
Situated next to the paddocks on the circuit infield, the show’s Art Deco façade echoes the famed London Motor Shows of the 1950s and ’60s. This year’s central theme has been chosen to honour key anniversaries for some of the nation’s best-loved sports cars: Goodwood is paying tribute to 60 years of the Triumph TR2 plus 50 years of the MGB, Lotus Elan and Triumph Spitfire. However, as Lord March was keen to point out on opening the show on the Friday morning, it isn’t just about British marques, the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati displaying their ‘latest’ models alongside ‘concept’ cars – each firm’s vision of what a production car might look like in the early 21st century.
