'Sally B'

Flying Fortress B-17G 'Sally B'

With a 104ft wingspan and 74ft length, the Flying Fortress B-17G ‘Sally B’ dwarfs most of the 28 other aircraft participating in this year’s Freddie March Spirit of Aviation concours d’elegance at the 2011 Goodwood Revival.

This year marks Sally B’s 66th year and 36th display season – an impressive feat as the aircraft has no official support and relies solely on charitable donations, sponsorship and souvenir sales to keep it flying. Sally B is the only remaining airworthy B-17 in the UK and Revival visitors can support the ’plane’s operator Elly Sallingboe and her team by purchasing souvenirs or making a donation to its registered charity at their stand over the road from the Revival Market.
