Saturday’s Fordwater Trophy for race-inspired 1964-66 sports and GT cars will witness all four SLR coupés being reunited for the first time since their completion in the early ’60s. Engineered by the late Chris Lawrence, a hero in Morgan lore for his class win in the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hours, these cars were styled by Chris Spender and bodied in aluminum by Williams & Pritchard. Three examples were constructed on Morgan platforms along with a fourth, shorter version on a Triumph TR4 chassis. Early adopters included future saloon car and sports car ace Gordon Spice and Neil Dangerfield.
Other unusual cars set to compete in the Fordwater Trophy include Bob Rigard’s MGB Coune Berlinette and two Ginetta G10s, one of them the ex-works car as raced in period by Chris Meek.
