Richmond Trophy Race
Pearson takes Ninth Goodwood Win
Gary Pearson streaked to his ninth Goodwood win with victory in Sunday’s Richmond Trophy race. The historics star was on epic form aboard the ex-Jo Bonnier BRM P25, building up a huge lead by the end of the opening lap of the 25-lap race for front-engined Grand Prix cars. His pursuers were delayed slightly as Willi Balz stalled his Maserati 250F on the front row, with Tony Smith running second initially in his Ferrari 246 Dino. Man on the move, however, was Stuart Rolt who made up for his poor start in the unique Ferguson P99 to move up the order. But at half-distance, Hubert Fabri smacked the wall on the run to Woodcote in his Aston Martin DBR4 which disrupted Rolt’s charge. The race ended behind the safety car, with Pearson leading home Smith and Nick Wrigle’s Connaught.
