Julian Majzub brought the 2012 Goodwood Revival programme to a close with a commanding win in the Sussex Trophy. The tyre dealer steered his Sadler Mk3 on its bumpstops, surviving several moments on a slippery track and chops from wayward backmarkers.
The prolific Alex Buncombe made the early running aboard Derek Hood’s Jaguar D-type but the GT regular lost drive five minutes into the 25-minute race for 1955-60 sports-racers. This allowed Mark Hales to enjoy a brief moment of glory as he led for a few feet in Nick Mason’s Maserati Tipo 61 before Majzub made full use of the Sadler’s small-block Chevy V8 power to surge past. He was never headed, Hales falling back as former British Touring Car Champion Tim Harvey and Andrew Smith surged past and battled over second place. The warring Lister drivers kept things clean to the flag, with Smith getting the nod. A jubilant Majzub punched the air as he crossed the line in his Canadian-made sports car with Smith four-seconds down in second place with Harvey a car length behind.
